Become A FBI Agent

Many children dream to become a FBI agent one day when they grow up. But this is not only the dream of children; there are a large number of adults who also wish to have this job. Most of those have no idea where to start or what to do to become an agent or where to find the relevant information. There are quite a few things to know and understand regarding this type of job.

If you want to become a FBI agent then you must have a bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years work experience related to the degree. If you want to work for the FBI, then having some experience in law, law enforcement or the military. If you have any experience in the financial field then you can look into working for their financial crime or fraud section.

At the moment you need one or more of the following skills to be able to apply: fluent in a foreign language, accounting/finance experience, engineering experience, computer science, physical science experience, law expertise, law enforcement, investigative experience or military experience. If you don’t have experience in any of these then you should consider trying to get some or go talk to the FBI to see if you have any other options.

You will probably first need to get your bachelor’s degree or even a masters in your specialty area. Like I also mentioned before you will need 2-3 years work experience in that area. Many also go to get a graduate degree in Law so you might want to consider doing that. You will need to apply to the agency and if you are accepted then you will train at the FBI academy to become a FBI agent. The training is done on the US Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia for 17 weeks.

Many people will immediately want to know what the salary will be if they become a FBI agent. This is something you should check with the agency to make sure you get the correct amounts because they are subject to change. It’s important to know the salary because you have to be sure you will be able to live comfortably on the salary and support your family should you need to.

Become an FBI agent if this is your dream. It’s important to follow dreams because they make you feel fulfilled and happy. If you don’t you will always wonder what it would have been like if you did follow your dream. Just make the decision carefully after looking at all the pros and cons of the job and of the change you will be making. If you have a family then this is something you should discuss with them too because they will be directly affected by you making this choice.
